Mommy Mistake #2987

Easter is coming and what a nice afternoon activity but to bring out the Easter decorations, Snoopy Easter book, Hello Kitty Easter stickers and of course, the B's Easter basket and explain the mighty Easter bunny/egg and basket activities. If you know me, you know that this didn't happen today - I actually made it until last weekend, so we are already a week into Easter bunny madness and we have three weeks to go. I have managed to hide the easter egg coloring kits and festive stickers. She had one sheet to play with and within hours I had peeled more Easter stickers than I care to share off of the floor, my clothes, her clothes, bottoms of shoes and as of today, the TV screen. I have picked up countless plastic eggs and explained how you can fit a different color top with bottom. I have swept up Easter basket grass, as pretty as it is, more times than you can count. On top of it all, we are about 5 boxes of Peeps into the season and the girl can match me 1 for 1 on peep eating. Oh yes, we are no doubt, mother and daughter. Yesterday, Daddy said - it is like a Mini Mommy - Peep eatin', barefoot lovin' Type A brilliant and gorgeous girl. (okay - I'm assuming he meant to add brilliant and gorgeous)

She has a list of goodies she would like the Easter bunny to bring. We have talked about how you need to be a good girl and Easter bunny will come and put goodies in your Easter basket on Easter Sunday. Tonight, she asked if we could write to the Easter bunny to tell him and so we also send him a video.

Today, I taught her how to hop like the Easter bunny and I told her she needs to show the Easter bunny how to hop. You can see, the Easter grass is tossed out of the basket again and the basket is now a hat. I couldn't help but get a quick video.

My mistake is that now I have three weeks of explaining why the Easter bunny hasn't come yet. I explained to her that we have three more weeks and she walks around holding up three fingers on both hands and telling us "three weeks E-ter bunny". My options, as I see them, are to put all of the decorations away until a few days ahead of time, start putting a daily treat in the basket with the grande finale being Easter Sunday (mmmm....a habit I don't think would be wise to start) or talk this up for the next three weeks and live with the stickers, eggs, grass and hopping practice. Like any great mother, I will pick up the Easter basket grass with a smile and hey, an occasional Peep sharing never hurt anyone.

I certainly am not requesting any sugary goodness - it is my weakness, but we have learned that bunnies are definitely preferred over chicks and for some crazy reason, yellow over pink. The shape far more important than the color.

Yes - we still don't have kitchen floors and yes, the ladybug boots are a multi-purpose boot in this house. I shudder to think what we will do once she grows out of them.

Sunny Spring Afternoon

Playing with dirt...

Bella asked to switch sunglasses with Mommy

Don't ask me why - I'm in love with this picture (and the little girl in it, of course)

Headin' home

I have come to the realization that if I don't want to be the parent in all the pictures or the assistant trying to work with the model, I am going to have to get my own camera or get within light years of Daddy's great photography. :)

Pop-Si-Cul Please!!!!!

Yes, popsicles are eaten sans clothes in our house, well, at this age anyway.

love this smile

Where or where has our little baby gone? Oh where or where can she be?

Where has our baby gone?

Since turning two less than two months ago she has...

1. ...transitioned from her crib to a big girl bed. One night, she asked to sleep in the bed and we gave it a shot and sure enough, she did it. She tried again the next couple of naps/bedtimes and the freedom got the better of her. We let a week go by and tried again and she hasn't looked back. She loves sleeping in a big girl bed. Once we get our referral, we will fix up her new big girl room and get the nursery ready for baby sister or baby brother.

2. ...began potty training. She wears a pull-up during the day and is typically dry. She stays dry all day at preschool and they asked us to bring panties. She wore panties for the first time this morning and did perfectly. Her overnight diaper was pretty much dry this morning. She is the youngest in this class and only the second one who has moved onto panties.

3. ...exploded her vocabulary. Five and six word sentences are nothing...now we are on to catchy phrases/questions like "let's go guys", "what's up with that?", "where are we going?" "what did he do that for?"

4. ...increased her Spanish skills. A couple weeks ago, we were driving home from preschool and I had my purse in the back seat. She said "Mommy's purse is verde". (verde = green) I about drove off the road and asked her to repeat herself. I then tried to remember from my four years of spanish class what some of the other colors are and I asked her (of course, came home and googled half of them to make sure I wasn't making stuff up). She knows a handful pretty well. Right now, she's hooked on blanca (white). Today, I am guessing, the lesson was body parts. Senor Carlos did his lesson and then they pointed to body parts on Little Boy Blue and asked the children what the part was. Who is the only one who answers in Spanish? Yep - my little "age-in" baby.

5. ...learned things that we didn't teach her. There is a goodie box outside her classroom and she has to look in it every day to pull out a treat. Well, they have long run out of the treats that I'd prefer her to have and they are down to suckers and individually wrapped Saltines. Well, you can imagine how many times "we" grab the Saltines. I was trying to talk her out of choosing anything but her teacher saw her peeking in the box and pointed out a small Dora candy cane. A candy cane, gee thanks, I have to take this girl home and put her down for nap with a candy cane. I also assumed that she wouldn't know what to do with a candy cane and she would just try to shove the whole thing in her mouth and choke on it on the way home. (okay - maybe I worry a teensy bit too much). On the way to the car, I tell her we can have it after nap and she says "eat candy cane in the car?" Ugh....fine......you did after all warm my heart with your brilliant Spanish skills just now. You've earned it. (Daddy's not the only pushover). I open it up and tell her that she needs to lick it. She takes one lick and that was all it took - she licked the entire thing until it got small enough to put in her mouth and suck on. No choking!

It was a nice day here and so we drove home with the windows down. I rarely do this because I find it extremely annoying to have my hair blowing everywhere and then there is the noise of it once you are going over 40 mph. We were at a long light and I rolled down both of the front windows and then thought I'd roll hers down while we were sitting there. Well, wouldn't you know, a mini van pulls up next to us and there are kids in the back with their windows down too. She notices and thinks she is pretty cool for having her window down just like the bigger kids. So, I leave them down for awhile...my baby's sweet locks blowing all over the place while she licked her Dora candy cane. She LOVED it. It was so simple and innocent, just pure laughter over the breeze on her face. Mommy and Bella enjoying a sunny trip home with not a care in the world - wind in our face, sun beaming through the moon roof. It reminded me of summer days when I was a kid and you didn't have A/C and you drove around with the windows down all summer long without a worry in the world.

Believe it or not, this is our sweet baby saying "cheese" for the camera!

Love love love grapes! We believe they have trumped "bah-lue berries" and "cant-e-lope".

The girl loves her some play doh time
